Greek police have arrested eight people suspected of involvement in an explosive attack on a Greek-American businessman on the island of Lefkada.
The incident occurred in January 2026, when the perpetrators allegedly placed an explosive device in the businessman's villa, in the area near Agiofylli.
The device contained about 10 kilograms of gelatin dynamite, but fortunately it did not explode. According to Greek Police investigations, the order for the attack is suspected to have been given by two prisoners in Malandrino prison, who used collaborators outside the prison to plan and carry out the attack.
The suspected organizers have been identified as Mikel Selimaj, 46 (pictured above), from Vlora, and Evstratios Nousis, 31, a Greek citizen. Selimaj, who has a history of drug-related offenses, theft and robbery, has been in custody since May 2025, accused of the shooting death of 41-year-old Altin Arapaj in Rafina (both in the main picture).
Meanwhile, Nousis, who has a criminal record dating back to 2015, is also under arrest for other offenses. In January of this year, he is suspected of wounding 46-year-old Gjirokastra resident Dhimo Meci, who was accused of contract killing, inside prison.
According to the DAOE's Extortion Crimes Prosecution Department file, the six accomplices of the two prisoners placed the explosive device on the back balcony of the businessman's villa. The device contained 10 kilograms of gelatin dynamite and was equipped with a slow-burning fuse. The device was discovered by the apartment's caretaker, preventing the explosion and its possible consequences.
The six people arrested outside the prison are accused of "forming a gang" and violating the legislation on weapons and explosives. In the same file, the two Malandrino prisoners are suspected of being the instigators of the attack.
Investigators are also looking into another incident involving the businessman. In May, he was allegedly the target of a gun attack in Voula, while the perpetrators of that incident have not been identified.
The motive for planting the explosives at the businessman's villa remains unclear. Greek authorities are continuing their investigations to clarify the role of each of those arrested and to determine whether there was a conflict or broader criminal activity behind the assassination.
