Sumeja Zumberi

For Sumeja Zumberi, a long-time dream came true. At the age of 18, she opened her own cafe.

But the new owner mainly attracts attention with her unusual concept that no men are allowed in her bar.

"Baresha" in Bremen is the first of its kind in the city.

It is located in the Gröpelingen district, where, according to the authorities, more than 60 percent of the residents have a migrant background.

Sumeja Zumberi says that this business idea came to her because the cafes in the area were overcrowded with men. Since it opened six weeks ago, there's been a heated discussion about it online, but she's not worried.

"I'm sure that women feel more comfortable here than anywhere else," Sumeja Zumberi told BILD .

" Especially those who have already had bad experiences and mothers who are breastfeeding or who come here with children. Men are allowed to buy an ice cream at the counter, but they are not allowed to stay ."

The student is supported by her family, which has been living in Germany for 30 years. Zumberi: " We are Albanians from Kosovo ".

Her father takes care of finances and insurance, while her mother helps in the restaurant.

The coffee and ice cream parlor has a space for about 30 women. The beginning has been good.

"I've had nothing but positive feedback from everyone so far," says the owner.

A client, who often comes with her friends or sisters, explains: " I feel better here, more comfortable, undisturbed ".
