Tradition wants the family to reunite on days of mourning and farewell, finding support in others.
Relatives arrive piece by piece from the Marche, Friuli and Lombardy. They rush through the narrow streets of Miane (Trevizo), carrying full bags, and enter the house of the parents of Anila Grishaj, who was crushed to death by a machine mistakenly driven by a colleague.
They hug the 26-year-old's mother, father and sister and brother as they are still in shock. Desperate, because the loss of a girl so young and so beloved is inexplicable.
On Tuesday evening, Anila's mother had prepared dinner. There was fish, in the oven, and he was preparing the table to gather the whole family, as always.
They were just waiting for Anila. But she did not come home, she was dead and no one had informed them of that tragedy.
"We were the last to find out, it's a shame, we should have been the first," says the older sister, angry and with a face marked by pain. "For two hours they didn't tell us anything, we found out from the websites".
"We want justice, they should give us explanations", says a cousin, before going through the door and joining the others.
The mechanical device that killed him
There is a suspect in the death of the 26-year-old Albanian woman at the "Bocon" company where she worked: she is a colleague. The Albanian was a line manager, an attentive employee and a caring boss.
She was monitoring the operation of a machine that arrived at the company five months ago, a mechanical arm that wraps finished products in bags for shipping.
After the machine has completed this process, it has approached the pallet to check it, leaving the place of command.
At that moment another employee, not seeing anyone, resumed the car process. Anila's head stuck, crushing her neck vertebrae. The reconstruction of the investigators prompted the prosecutor, Franceska Torri, to open an investigation for her colleague for manslaughter against Anila.
But further investigations are still needed: the cameras inside the company will be checked and the machinery has been seized; It will be essential to understand if the safety procedures related to the use of the machine were carried out correctly, if it was required to check the presence of other workers nearby, before starting the engines, if an automatic block was provided during maintenance.
Colleague: She was the best boss
On Wednesday the factory workers were at home. "I didn't sleep last night, yesterday (Wednesday) everyone burst into tears, because working with her was good, the best boss we could have," said one of her colleagues.
"We started together, five years ago. We always told him we should roll out a red carpet for him when he came in. She always smiled even when things were not going well. We have all used that car in these five months", says the colleague.
And now, everyone looks at him in horror and fear. They ask what happened and if it could happen again.
"One of the safest cars"
Anila was engaged to a boy from Susegana. They were thinking about a life together, but that dream was violently cut short.
"They said it was one of the safest cars, it cost millions of euros," says a cousin of the girl.
"They need to tell us why she died doing her job. He felt good there, he had a good role. We demand that justice be established."
When she attended primary school, Anila had a teacher for one year, Angela Colmelleren, former Mayor of Miana and ex-MP: "Our community is shocked, it's a shocking drama. I remember Anila as a smart, smiling girl, her family is very integrated, hardworking. We are all speechless", says Angela. / Corriere della Sera
