The 65th anti-government protest has begun in Tirana.
Citizens marched from Skanderbeg Square towards the Prime Minister's Office building, demanding the resignation of the government and the removal of the current political class.
With banners, national flags and chants of "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison," the protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the political situation in the country.
One of the protesters praised the spirit of unity of citizens for over two months, underlining that they are giving hope. The elderly man said that their party is New Albania and that fear has finally been killed.
"Fear has finally been killed and now people can express themselves freely. I thank all the protesters who come here and give us hope, young people and retirees, for the enthusiasm they are showing here in this square. The protesters have created their own party, New Albania," he said.
Another protester warned from Skanderbeg Square that these protests, which have also erupted in other cities, could escalate into civil disobedience.
"This is the first government that is internationally recognized for hiding dirty money in Albania, not only from Albanian mafias, but also from foreign ones. I want this protest to last, as it is a marathon, not a sprint. This protest could escalate into civil disobedience throughout Albania," he said.
A day ago, one of the main topics of the protest was the new administrative-territorial reform proposed by the Socialist Party.
Protesters opposed the plan to reduce the number of municipalities from 61 to 46, arguing that the changes would lead to the concentration of local power and the weakening of rural areas.
According to them, the reform risks deepening depopulation and further removing decision-making from citizens.
