The president of the Supreme Assembly of Islamists of Serbia, mufti of Belgrade Muhamed Jusufspahic has reacted to the plans of Prime Minister Edi Rama for the establishment of a sovereign Bektashi state in the heart of Tirana.

Jusufspahic, who is currently Serbia's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, says that the Bektashis are not Muslims, and their way of life proves it. They are a sect, according to him, founded in Turkey in the 1300s and they believe in Ali, the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad.

He said that he does not know the exact number of Bektashis, but he believes that in the region, they reach over 1 million.

According to him, Rama does this to strengthen "pan-Albanianism". Jusufspahic says that the states do not have to recognize this religion of the Bektashis, but adds that "anything can happen", especially at this time when the Arab countries are showing more support for the Muslims, starting from the suffering that the Palestinians are going through in Gaza.

We remember that this mufti is known for his extremist statements. He previously stated that "Kosovo is the cradle of Serbia" and that "Serbs are not a genocidal state".
