A couple from Tennessee in the US and their two children are looking for a new home after a large tornado swept through their community, including their 4-month-old baby, who was found alive in a nearby tree.
Sydney Moore, her boyfriend and their children were inside their home last Saturday in Clarksville when the tornado, which left six people dead and many injured, struck Montgomery County.
Moore said the tornado, which destroyed the couple's home and other belongings, took her 4-month-old baby, who managed to survive the horrific event.
"Something inside me told me to run and jump on my son," Moore told Nashville's USMV Nee as she recounted her efforts to protect her oldest child, a 1-year-old. "The moment I jumped on it, the walls collapsed."
Recalling exactly what happened that evening, Moore said her boyfriend could see the tornado destroying their home.
"The roof came off first, the top of the tornado came down and took the stroller with our baby," she said. "He was the first thing that went up in the air.
Moore said her boyfriend tried to save the baby and ended up jumping out of the house along with the baby, who was asleep at the time.
Despite the circumstances, Moore said she and her family were able to escape the wreckage and search for their child, fearing the worst.
After about 10 minutes of searching, Moore said she and her boyfriend found the baby alive in a tree.
"I thought he was dead," she said. "I was pretty sure he was dead and we wouldn't find him. But he was alive, and that's thanks to God," the young mother confessed.
"I would die for my children. That's not up for debate, and my boyfriend would do the same," added Moore.
Moore and her family were left with little to no personal belongings after the tragic incident, but the community is said to have rallied to support them.
