The European Union decided on Thursday to open accession negotiations to the Union for Ukraine and Moldova. Russia reacted to this decision this Friday.
The spokesman of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, said that this decision could lead to the destabilization of the European Union.
"Negotiations to join the EU can take years or decades. The EU has always had strict criteria for admission and it is clear that at the moment neither Ukraine nor Moldova meet these criteria. It is clear that this is an absolutely politicized decision, the EU's desire to demonstrate support for these countries. But such new members can destabilize the EU and since we live on the same continent as the EU, of course it is a decision that includes us as well," the spokesman said. of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov.
EU leaders agreed to open negotiations with Ukraine, which has been at war with Russia since February 24, 2022, but there was no agreement on a 50 billion euro financial aid package for Kiev, which was opposed by Hungary.
Peskov also commented on Hungary's position, saying that it is not a pro-Russian country, but defended its own interests.
