MYSTERY: What is hidden behind "Lidl Albania"? Who is getting the
“Lidl Albania”

Former Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj has publicly raised strong questions about the Lidl customs terminal project in Albania, describing it as a case that requires an in-depth public and institutional investigation into how the law on strategic investments has been implemented.

According to Ahmetaj, Lidl has benefited from a customs terminal with a 35-year contract and automatic renewal, while no other similar activity is allowed within a 5-kilometer radius.

He emphasized on Syri TV that this situation has led to massive expropriations of private owners, not in the service of a broad public interest, but in direct favor of a private entity that, according to him, should be investigated.

Ahmetaj stated that the owners were expropriated on behalf of Lidl, questioning the concept of public interest that justifies state intervention.

According to him, the customs warehouse is being given without the corresponding port having been built yet, which makes the whole scheme even more unclear.

Ahmetaj raised strong suspicions that the law on strategic investments has been used criminally, describing this practice as a robbery of public and private property.

According to Ahmetaj, granting a customs warehouse under these conditions, without meeting basic infrastructure criteria, is a dangerous precedent that must be stopped.

In his statement, Ahmetaj emphasized that there are many rumors about the Lidl project about the actors who are really behind it, calling for this issue to be investigated by journalists, public opinion, and Albanian institutions.

" Who is behind Lidl, let the journalists find out. This scheme must be stopped ," said Ahmetaj, describing the case as a serious test for transparency, legality and the protection of the public interest in the country.
