Approved by the EC, you can now use the phone on the plane

Mobile phones with 5G will be able to be used on board European planes.

This is the turning point set by the European Commission, which updated the implementing decision on the spectrum of mobile communications on board aircraft, defining certain frequencies for 5G technology in flight.

 "5G will enable innovative services for people and growth opportunities for European businesses. The sky is no longer the limit when it comes to the possibilities offered by the high-speed and high-capacity network."

The service will be provided in the cabin of aircraft equipped with special network equipment to connect users and route calls, text messages and data via a satellite network.
The Commission has also amended an implementing decision on the 5 GHz frequency spectrum, which will make the spectrum available for Wi-Fi in road transport, cars and buses.

The decision lays the foundations for innovations in the automotive sector.

According to the amended implementing decision, Member States will make 5 GHz frequency bands available for on-board use on roads as soon as possible and no later than 30 June 2023.
