The Greek minister pressured Albanian justice for Beler: We hope that tomorrow

The Minister of State of Greece, Stavros Papastavrou, met Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of Himara, in prison today.

After the visit with Beler, Papastavrou put pressure on the Albanian justice system, demanding Beler's release.

"We demand that the Albanian judicial branches express and give justice. Tomorrow we hope that the Albanian justice system will finally give justice to Fredi Beleri ," said Papastavrou to the media.

The statement of the Greek minister comes a day before the next trial against Beler, where the latter seeks the freedom to be sworn in as the mayor of Himara.

Beleri was arrested two days before the May 14 local elections. According to the prosecution, the wiretapping shows that he offered money in exchange for votes.

His imprisonment has also led to the irritation of Tirana-Athens relations, while Greece has threatened to block Albania's integration into the EU.
