SPAK issued a press release regarding the arrest of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sokol Canameti, 48 years old, with the duty of Specialist in the Anti-Narcotics Section at the Tirana Local Police Directorate.

From the investigations it was found that the officer Sokol Canameti, exerting pressure on the arrested EK, asked the latter for the sum of two thousand euros in exchange for his release, saying that he would find him wherever he was if he did not bring him this amount. 

According to the SPAK, the investigator EK immediately informed his brother, the investigator FK, who through his acquaintances, after securing the amount of 235,000 ALL, gave it to the officer Sokol Canameti, around 17.30-20.00 on October 10 2022.

The Special Prosecutor's Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime has conducted investigations within the framework of criminal proceedings no. 181 dated 31.10.2022, proceedings registered on the basis of the reference material sent by the Regional Directorate of the Police Supervision Authority, Tirana for the criminal offenses "Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions" and "Abuse of duty", provided for by articles 259 and 248 of the Criminal Code.
Sufficient evidence was gathered from this investigation which created reasonable suspicion that the person under SC investigation, as a judicial police officer, has consumed elements of the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of judges, prosecutors and other justice officials", provided from article 319/ç of the Criminal Code, after the judicial police official, the SC investigator, exerting pressure on the arrested EK, asked the latter for the sum of 2000 euros in exchange for his release, saying that he would found wherever he was if he did not bring this amount. At the request of the Prosecution, the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime with decision no. 30 dated 04.07.2023 has set the measure of securing arrest in prison for the citizen: • SC, suspected of the criminal offense "Passive corruption
of judges, prosecutors and other justice officials", provided by Article 319/ç of the Criminal Code.
The Police Supervision Authority, Tirana Regional Directorate, executed on 09.04.2023 the security measure determined by decision no. 30 dated 07.04.2023 of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime.

Clarification: Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final decision
