The Constitutional Court returned him to the head of the Municipality, the
Erion Veliaj

The Constitutional Court ruled that Erion Veliaj remains mayor of Tirana and there will be no new elections in the capital.

The decision provided a way out of the conflict between the mayor of Tirana, the Council of Ministers who dismissed him from office, and the President of the Republic who issued a decree for early elections in the capital.

Invited to Top Story, Top Channel journalist Anila Hoxha said that it is now important to see how Veliaj's other legal processes will continue, with the charges brought against him by SPAK.

"In the preliminary hearing, Veliaj will be accused as mayor, not former mayor. We will see how he will now, as mayor, govern the municipality from Durres prison, while he has requested to be in office several times, but has been refused."

Veliaj has not yet gone to the Constitutional Court for the measure of arrest in prison. He has tested the three levels of the judiciary, and after exhausting the Constitutional Court, it seems that he will have Strasbourg as his goal. Given the progress and importance of the case, each of the accused in Veliaj's file, each of them will have their say and will object. They have not yet had their say.

This will take time... If I were to compare the Ilir Beqaj process, it was almost a year. Two issues that have not been understood in terms of how the strategy will play out in the previous session are the issue of Meta and others, and Veliaj and others", said Anila Hoxha.
