Bujar Spahiu has been threatened with his life to resign from the leadership of the Muslim Community of Albania. According to MCN Tv, which cites diplomatic sources, in at least two cases the chairman of the KMSH was physically threatened by people who presented themselves as believers.
It is known that some time ago, a person with criminal records and armed entered Bujar Spahi's office and asked him to leave.
Not only that. Through the same sources, it is learned that two businessmen in Albania have met with the current head of KMSH and have asked him to make a fictitious withdrawal from office. These efforts come at a time when conflict within the Muslim Community has surfaced between a group considered close to Turkey and accusing Spahi of being a Gulenist.
A few weeks ago, in front of the headquarters of the Albanian Muslim Committee, there was also a protest against the chairman Bujar Spahiu.
It seems that the conflict raging for the chairman of the KMSH is also holding hostage the opening of the Namazgja mosque, which is being built with funds from Turkish Muslim believers. Turkish President Rexhep Tayip Erdogan has postponed the planned visit for the inauguration of this mosque, while it is said that he has asked Prime Minister Edi Rama to remove Bujar Spahija as chairman of KMSH.
The works for the construction of the Namazgja Mosque started in 2015 and were expected to last 2-3 years. But today after 8 years, the doors of the mosque are still not opened for Muslim believers and visitors.
The mosque with four minarets in the capital was built with funds from the Directorate of Religious Affairs of Turkey and the Diyanet Foundation. But in an interview for the Voice of America in January 2022, the former head of KMSH, Skënder Bruçaj, said that if the works were not completed, KMSH had the capacities to make the mosque functional.
Elections for the president of the KMSH for the next 4 years will take place in March of the following year.
