After extreme temperatures, the weather took an unexpected turn this afternoon in the south of the country.

In Saranda, the sun has given way to heavy rain accompanied by lightning. 

It didn't take long for water to flood the streets, causing traffic difficulties.

Albania has been facing large-scale fires for weeks. The main hotspots are Kruja, the Dajti area and Lura, where the fires continue to be active, favored by high temperatures and strong winds.

Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to drop significantly over the weekend and for the remainder of August.
