Mersine Kaliaj, the mother of 55-year-old Elmas Kaliaj, who stabbed his wife and the neighbor who intervened to avoid the tragedy, said that her son suffers from mental health problems and had not taken his medication for about two months.

According to the elderly woman, Elmasi wanted to slaughter his wife, Shkëlqime Kaliaj, and they could not hold him back. She further adds that her son has never had a fight with his wife before.

"He wanted to kill him, bam-bum, we couldn't hold him. The boy had gone 1-2 months without taking the medicine. When he drank them it was good, but he didn't want to drink them anymore. He wanted to slaughter his bride, because that's what gave him the brain. They didn't have a fight, a fight. The children don't know anything, they are at work",  she said.

The incident happened at noon today in the "Dyle Haxhiri" neighborhood in Elbasan. Elmas Kaliaj attacked with a knife his wife and their neighbor, Enver Sula, who intervened to save the woman. The two injured were transported to the hospital and are out of danger.
