The court hearing for Safet Gjici, the former mayor of Kukës, will be held today at the Elbasan Court.

Gjici is requesting conditional release to serve the remainder of his sentence at home. The hearing will take place at 10:00 with open doors.

Gjici was arrested on June 24, 2023, after the publication of a compromising video showing his intimate office relations with Alma Kaçi. He was initially charged with “passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials,” while Kaçi was charged with “active corruption.”

During the trial, the Court changed the charge against Gjic to "abuse of office", sentencing him to 2 years in prison and a ban on exercising public functions for 5 years.

On the other hand, Alma Kaçi was sentenced to 1 year in prison for "prostitution", after SPAK investigations revealed that she had offered irregular benefits to the former mayor in the form of sexual favors.
