"I am sick. I can't leave the hospital because I'm serious. Send me 1,000 or 1,500 euros". This was the request that various citizens from Kosovo received in their "messenger" from the profiles of their relatives. However, no one knew that behind the address was not their relative but a person who had been able to hack the address and be removed as such.

The Prosecutor's Office of Tirana claims to have identified one of those involved in the criminal activity of computer fraud. His name is Liridon Peka, 28 years old, pharmacist by profession. He appeared on Saturday in front of the Tirana court, where he was introduced to the security measure of arrest and imprisonment. Sources from within the process revealed the mechanism through which he allegedly used to extort citizens from Kosovo.

The investigation into the case started in the spring of 2022, after the report that a citizen from Kosovo made to the Prishtina police. The man said that he thought he had started it in front of his nephew, after the message on the social network, but when he called him to ask if he had withdrawn the money, he replied that he had never asked him for such a thing.

At this moment, the man realized that he was the victim of a fraud. After several investigations, Liridon Peka was arrested and then sent to house arrest. According to the prosecution, the suspect continued the criminal activity. It is suspected that with the help of another person, he hacked the addresses of various citizens mainly from Kosovo, identified the relatives of his victim and after they agreed to send the money, he asked them to go there through a transfer point and gave him the name of the recipient . Regarding the withdrawal of the money, the prosecution has doubts that Peka cooperated with an elderly person.

It was precisely the 85-year-old who helped the investigators in clarifying the mechanism. He told the investigators that the pharmacist owed him 25,000 euros and to get his money back he had asked him to withdraw the money. According to the old man, he sent his brother, nephew, nephew's daughter-in-law, sister and two friends with whom he used to gamble to the money transfer offices.

He explains that he withdrew a total of 61,000 euros, of which he kept 10,000 as part of the debt. but Peka's lawyer, Tefik Sulejmani argued fiercely in the session and said that there is no evidence linking the pharmacist to this criminal activity. Meanwhile, the prosecution claims that it presented as evidence 62 mandates issued by the subsidiaries of the money transfer network, as well as two laptops. The investigations into the case continue, while the suspect Liridon Peka will remain under the measure of arrest in prison./News24
