Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted with disappointment today after the Tirana Court decided to dismiss his defamation lawsuit against Lulzim Basha, filed seven years ago.

Rama did not spare any irony towards the judge who made the decision, Engjëllushe Tahiri, labeling her as the "Shvejk" of the justice system.

Rama said that the judge's conclusions to dismiss the defamation lawsuit – that Basha's statements "did not affect the public's perception of Rama" – is not something to cry about, but to mourn.

The head of government used this opportunity to emphasize the opposition he made to the request of the Union of Judges the day before, after they requested a salary increase of 700 euros.

At the end of his reaction, Rama says that it is not "his concern", but "how will he deal with the much more important issues of the people, which depend on the mind of the judge in question or others like her."

Engjëllushe Tahiri has been confirmed in office by the Independent Qualification Commission in 2023.

She completed her studies at the Magistrates' School in 2010 and after an internship at the Tirana Court, she was appointed to the Krujë District Court. In 2020, Tahiri was assigned to the Legal Service Unit at the High Court.
