The author of the murder of the 50-year-old Albanian Shpëtim Bajrami in Thessaloniki, Greece, two days ago, appeared today before the Greek court, where he was charged with murder and illegal possession of weapons.

Accompanied by two Greek police officers, the 45-year-old was wearing bulletproof vests, a security measure for defendants that is often taken by Greek authorities.

The 45-year-old, a person with a previous criminal record, surrendered to the police yesterday, accompanied by his lawyer. He claimed before the investigators that he was friends with the victim and had no intention of killing him, but said that he was threatened by him.

The fight between the two that led to the murder is believed to have happened over a financial dispute.

The perpetrator and the victim had a conflict in a bar, then left. The author followed the victim Shpëtim Bajrami by car and when the latter stopped the vehicle at a gas station, he saw that the 45-year-old was following him.

The victim approached the car and started hitting it with a chain. At this moment, the perpetrator shot him with a pistol from inside the vehicle, causing his death.
