Earthquake in Turkey, search teams find 2 million dollars under the rubble

Firefighters still searching for survivors in the rubble caused by the February 6 earthquakes that struck Turkey have faced an unusual situation in Gaziantep.

Media in Turkey report that firefighters have found more than $2 million in "cash" under the rubble. Immediately, they opened the cameras and placed all the money in a black bag before handing it over to the police.

"We have tried with all our power to come to the aid of the people trapped under the rubble, to save lives. Also, we have faced many similar cases when we have found sums of money or other valuable items, which we have immediately handed over to the police. This is the job of a firefighter, it saves life, protects property", said the head of the Gaziantep Fire Department, Cafer Yilmaz.

Under the ruins of the buildings, in addition to the workers of the search and rescue groups, thieves were seen digging for valuables, despite the protection from the authorities.

While the people are caught and arrested within a short time, the search and rescue teams hand over the money and jewelry that the people kept in their homes to the security forces.

According to Turkish media, hundreds of safes and many valuables and expensive jewelry were found under the ruins. To avoid abuse, the authorities are recording every object found, while all people who claim to have lost valuables under the rubble must report to the police.
