Saranda was shocked yesterday by a domestic crime, where 49-year-old Elvira Tahiraj killed her husband with an axe in his sleep.

When questioned by the police, the 49-year-old admitted that she was the perpetrator of the murder.

According to sources, the 49-year-old, cold-blooded but seemingly mentally ill woman, said that on another occasion she had attempted to kill her husband, while she did not confess to any reason that led her to this act.

It is learned that it was the couple's daughter who found her father at around 8:00 am, lifeless and surrounded by a pool of blood around his body.

After searching for her mother and finding her at the front door of the house, the girl called her sister and told her what had happened.

According to a neighbor, the 49-year-old woman was standing outside the door at around 4:00 in the morning.

"I got up to go to my father's house, who was sick, and I saw him standing at the door and not reacting at all when I passed by. I was surprised but it didn't occur to me what could have happened," he said.

According to the Saranda forensic doctor, the victim was hit in the head and was bleeding profusely.

Prosecutor Esmeranda Basho, after her investigations, decided that the body of the victim, 55-year-old Llazar Tahiraj, be sent to the Forensic Medicine Department in Tirana.

49-year-old Elvira Tahiraj will appear in court on Thursday.
