A nurse for almost 20 patients, this was the service that the 23-year-old patient faced in the neurology ward at QSUT. The young woman who has had her relative in this service for almost 3 weeks, says that the night shift was the most difficult.
" As for the night, there was a significant lack of staff. On one of the neurology floors, only one nurse could serve over 20 patients ,” she said.
In some cases, even the medications were given to them late. " There were patients who had to receive the serum at 8 o'clock, they received it an hour later, because a single nurse cannot cope with the work flow ," she said.
Weekends are more difficult, where, apart from the lack of staff, there are also reductions in services.
"The Christmas weekend was the one that was more difficult, as far as the few other nurses that were there," she said.
This situation is not only difficult for the patients, but also for the nurse on duty, who has to cope with all the increased flow.
" This is a problem both for patients who come with different diagnoses and from the nurse's side, which means, one cannot cope with the entire flow collected. There may be patients who may have seizures at the same time and want service ," she said
Germany and Italy are two of the countries that have received more doctors and nurses from Albania, while the departure of the white shirts continues to create other shortages in the health system staff in the country.
