In the last week of December, the seasonal flu is circulating intensively in our country, but public health experts say that its peak is expected to be at the end of January and the beginning of February.
In a statement for Gazetasi.al, public health expert Artan Simaku said that the surveillance system at ISHP reported about 12,000 sick people in the last week.
Simaku said that two flu viruses are currently circulating, flu type A with subtypes AH3 and AH1 as well as flu virus type B, respiratory viruses and less Covid.
"Tendencies for the increase of flu cases are increasing, but we have not yet reached the epidemic threshold.
We are in a normal period of seasonal flu circulation, just like before the pandemic. Currently, the AH3 subtype is more aggressive as a virus, showing a higher temperature of up to 39 and less than the type B virus," public health experts say.
The official figures belong to the cases presented to the family doctor for a medical visit, while the number of people affected by flu and viruses is even higher.
According to expert Artan Simaku, both subtypes of the flu virus are included in the flu vaccine, so he appeals for vaccination of the population.
"At the moment, we have co-circulation of influenza and Covid, so it is never too late to get vaccinated with the anti-influenza and anti-covid vaccine. "Since the flu circulates in all age groups, from babies a few months old to the elderly, extra care is required as the complications of the flu are serious if not treated in time," experts say.
With the beginning of January, it is expected that flu cases will increase, increasing the alarm among experts due to the risk of the influx of cases for therapy in hospitals.
The doctors advise that in any case they go to the family doctor to perform the visit and receive the necessary medical therapy.
Also, doctors appeal to parents that if their child is affected by the flu, not to send them to kindergartens and schools as they become a source of the spread of the infection.
