Sentenced to 10 years in prison, the Supreme Court rejects the appeal of the
Clement Balili

The Supreme Court has rejected Klemend Balili's appeal regarding the decision of the Special Appeal, which in 2019 finally sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

The three judges, Ilir Panda, Medi Bici and Sandër Simoni, did not consider the appeal of Balili, otherwise known as the "Escobar of the Balkans".

The latter was finally sentenced on October 17, 2019 to 10 years in prison, for committing the criminal offenses of "drug trafficking in collaboration", "participation in a structured criminal group", "refusal to declare, failure to declare, concealment or false declaration of assets of civil servants" and "money laundering".

In total, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison, but due to the summary trial, Balili received a 1/3 reduction in his sentence, ultimately sentencing him to 10 years. The decision was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

The operation to crack down on Balili's group took place in May 2016, an operation that extended to Greece and Belgium. At that time, Balili escaped arrest, but surrendered after three years on the run.
