Today, tributes will be held for Enea Mekolli, the 34-year-old officer who lost his life during an operation in Lozhan, Maliqi, the day before.
Tributes will be held at 12:00 in Pogradec and burial will be in the cemetery of his hometown.
The protocol stipulates that Martyrs of the Homeland be buried in the cemetery in Tirana, but it was the family's wish that this be done for their son. The officer had followed in the footsteps of his brother in wearing the police uniform, who had also lost his life due to a serious illness.
With the difficult loss of the two sons, the family members have requested that they be buried next to each other.
Enea Mekolli's funeral will take place at 2:00 PM.
A day ago, the Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, and the Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, were present to express their condolences to the family of the deceased.
In the operation that turned out to be Mekolli's last, six Eagles officers set off in a van to arrest the much-wanted Violand Braçellari, but the latter opened fire, killing Officer Enea Mekolli with a single bullet and wounding his colleague, Edison Adri, with two bullets in the head and neck.
Braçellari was also wounded in the hand and stomach, but his life was out of danger.
