Authorities in Italy have investigated the Governor of Sardinia, Christian Solinas, on charges of corruption and money laundering, while a scandal directly links him to Albania.
The Faculty of Medicine in Tirana has awarded him an 'Honoris Causa' title under very strange conditions indeed.
According to the prosecutors, Solinas was honored with this title by the University of Medicine in Tirana in exchange for the appointment of a person in the authority that deals with energy in Italy, a person named Rajmondi.
In exchange for the appointment of Raimondi in an important organization with a payment of 140 thousand euros per year, he would have also received an honorary degree in Medicine from the University of Tirana and has also been appointed an external professor in this faculty.
Raimondi is the director of the Doctorate Department of the Public University of Medicine of Tirana. It remains mysterious how Solinas would have justified obtaining a degree that in Italy includes lessons and internships at the time when he was head of the important Sardinian Region. And some time ago, Governor Solinas has been criticized by the media after declaring that he has an academic degree at the Leibnitz University of Milan, which is not recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education.
These suspicions have caused prosecutors from Cagliari to come to Tirana to clarify everything. Italian media write that of course the governor has a difficult relationship with educational qualifications.
"In fact, he had an excellent degree in sociology from the Leibnitz University of Milan. However, it is not recognized by MIUR. Solinas graduated in law in 2018 from the University of Sassari. But the university has always refused to show the thesis, considering it protected by privacy. Now comes this curious story of the medical degree in Tirana", the Italian journalists write.
