Albanian Zenan Lleshi was a paid soldier who looked after more than 100 cannabis plants inside the Shelton address, has been handcuffed by English police.
The 59-year-old attempted to escape when police forced their way in, but was caught. Officers seized 110 cannabis plants from two bedrooms.
Lleshi has now been jailed for 16 months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, which should lead to his deportation back to Albania.
Prosecutor Matthew Ness said police visited an address on Castlefield Street at 3pm on November 27 after receiving reports of a strong smell of cannabis coming from the property.
Ness said: “ There was evidence of electrical bypassing. The police made forced entry. As they did so, the defendant attempted to escape through the bathroom window, but he was stopped .”
Officers discovered the house had been converted into a cannabis factory with 60 plants in one bedroom and 52 in another.
The loft had been converted for growing cannabis, but contained no plants. The defendant was found to have around £350, consisting of sterling, euros and Albanian currency.

Lleshi, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to manufacturing a class B drug. He initially worked in construction in London, but later became involved in growing cannabis.
In the courtroom, Judge Robert Smith addressed Lleshi and said: " Police received reports of a strong odor of cannabis coming from that property. When officers knocked on the door you attempted to flee."
A professional and sophisticated cannabis growing operation had been set up inside that property. There were 60 mature cannabis plants in the front bedroom and 52 in the back bedroom, and the attic had been converted for growing cannabis in readiness for another crop. All of this was coupled with hydroponic lighting, transformers and timers.
In your interview you said you came to the UK illegally in a small boat in August 2022. You had a debt of £10,000 to repay for your illegal arrival here. You are a father and grandfather who came here from Albania in search of a better life.
"You were a paid foot soldier, working under the direction of the government to maintain and care for the plants. Cannabis farms like this cannot operate without people like you prepared to undertake criminal work for short-term financial reward ."
