Court releases 14 protesters arrested three days ago from prison

Protesters arrested on the evening of September 1, after surrounding the Prime Minister's Office building while Prime Minister Edi Rama was inside his office, have been released by the Tirana Court.

The protesters were suspected of the crimes of "Organizing and participating in illegal gatherings and demonstrations", "Opposing a public order police officer", "Disturbing public peace" and "Obstructing the movement of means of transport".

During the court hearing, the protesters demanded that the arrest be declared unlawful and their release without any security measures, insisting that they have not committed any criminal offense.

While the hearing was taking place inside the court, outside its doors, citizens continuously called for the release of the protesters and the arrest of senior officials, chanting: "Arrest Rama, arrest Balluk!"

Citizens Dritan Goxhaj, Junik Matoshi, Edison Lika, Erlind Almeta, Sokol Bushi, Lulzim Gjini, Valtion Shameti, Florian Manarkolli, Desiderjo Alimuçaj, Bora Mitrovica, Arvina Lleshi, Ylli Brahaj, Arben Kola and Aumiraldi Dalliu were arrested on the evening of September 1, after they surrounded the government building as soon as it was learned that the prime minister was inside. After several hours of resistance from the protesters, the prime minister left the office under strict security measures.

Citizen protests have been ongoing for more than three months, with citizens demanding the resignation of the chief executive.
