The Larë Court has reacted regarding the threats against two female prosecutors, from the criminal group of Laert Haxhi.

The Supreme Court calls on the institutions to correctly implement all provisions for the protection and guarantee of life of magistrates.

The confession of the repentant justice Artan Tafani revealed that Laert Haxhiu's group had threatened two female prosecutors, one from Elbasani, who was investigating this very criminal group.

The Supreme Court's full response:

Judges of the Supreme Court follow with concern all references to threats against magistrates due to the exercise of their duty.

The purpose of the justice system is to functionally and principledly carry out its task, and therefore it must be protected and guaranteed from any kind of pressure, interference, obstruction, restriction, from any direction that may come, since they severely affect its functioning, but also shake the public's trust in justice. Pressures or threats of any kind against magistrates are a serious concern not only for them, but for the entire Albanian society, which is interested in the protection of the rights and safety of every individual's life, as well as the normal functioning of the rule of law.

The judges of the Supreme Court welcome the correct and responsible implementation of the legal provisions for the protection and guarantee of the life, health and integrity of the magistrates. Public opinion and the competent bodies must be clear that courts and prosecutions are institutions at the service of citizens and society and that any attempt to violate their physical and moral integrity directly affects the independence of the system in general and the individual one, of the magistrate in particular.

The judges of the Supreme Court, being in fulfillment of the function and mission for which they have been charged, express the maximum commitment to contribute to the protection of the highest social and democratic values, which guarantee the rule of law itself and the development of the Albanian society. We are and will always be in our constitutional position to fulfill the duty and serve the state and society.
