The Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of Fredi Beleri and Pandeli Kokaveshi, who had appealed the decision of the Special Appeal that found them guilty of electoral corruption.
Beleri was sentenced to 2 years in prison, while Kokaveshi was sentenced to 3 years of probation.
Beleri and Kokaveshi were arrested by order of the Vlora Prosecutor's Office in the early morning hours of May 12, 2023, just two days before the date when the vote to elect new mayors would take place.
According to the prosecution, it turned out that defendant Beleri offered 50 euros for eight votes. Beleri was also accused of having given the money through another defendant, Pandeli Kokaveshi.
Beleri was a candidate for the "Together We Win" coalition, for which he managed to win the elections, but failed to enjoy the mayoral mandate.
The file was transferred from the Vlora Prosecutor's Office to the Special Prosecutor's Office, SPAK, which requested Beleri's guilty plea for active corruption in the elections and their punishment.
