Germany returns immigrants/ 2025 "record" deportations, over 1,000

In Germany, pressure is increasing to return rejected asylum seekers, and according to local media, there will already be more repatriations by 2025.

An independent structure has been set up in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia to monitor how affected people are treated. Over 2,800 people were deported from Germany by air from Düsseldorf Airport alone in 2024. Those deported are people whose asylum applications have been rejected or who for other reasons have no prospect of staying in Germany.

The total number of deportees last year was over 20,000, which is a higher figure than ever before. And in 2025, the graph is increasing. According to the Ministry of the Interior, 12,000 people were deported in the first half of this year. Over 1,000 asylum seekers were returned from Germany to Albania in 2024, almost 1,400 people to North Macedonia, while over 1,800 people to Georgia.

Experts say there is a lot of work to do to document whether people are being returned legally or against their will. A flagrant case is the deportation of a child who had just undergone heart surgery. The return was carried out even before the post-operative examination that had been prescribed by the doctor was completed.

In such cases, more sensitivity and flexibility are required from the authorities and that the entire deportation process be monitored./top channel
