IMF: Artificial intelligence will hit 40% of jobs and increase inequality!

In a detailed analysis of the International Monetary Fund, it is stated that artificial intelligence will affect almost 40% of all jobs.

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has stated that in most scenarios, AI is likely to increase overall inequality.

"It is essential that countries create comprehensive social safety nets and provide retraining programs for vulnerable workers. By doing this, we can make the AI transition more inclusive, protecting livelihoods and curbing inequality," Georgieva stated.

During her speech, Georgieva called on policymakers to address the troubling trend to prevent technology from further fueling social tensions.

Referring to the analysis, the IMF says that artificial intelligence is likely to affect a larger percentage of jobs in advanced economies, at around 60%.

In half of these cases, workers can expect to benefit from the integration of artificial intelligence, which will increase their productivity.

In other cases, artificial intelligence will have the ability to perform key tasks currently performed by humans. This can reduce the demand for labor, affecting wages and even eliminating jobs.

Meanwhile, the IMF projects that technology will affect only 26% of jobs in low-income countries.

"Many of these countries lack the infrastructure or workforce capable of harnessing the benefits of artificial intelligence, raising the risk that over time, the technology could exacerbate inequality between nations," the IMF director said.

The IMF analysis comes as global business and political leaders gather at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where artificial intelligence is a topic of discussion, following the rise in use of apps like ChatGPT.
