The increase in the number of undocumented Albanians in Greece has prompted the socialists to learn the number of detained people.

SP MP Ardit Bido has officially addressed the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy with a request for information on the list of names of Albanians who are not allowed to enter Greek territory, as well as the legal reasons that led to these decisions.

After the ban on Top Channel journalist Marin Mema in 2011, the cases seem not to be isolated. Journalist Artan Hoxha was also prevented from crossing the Albanian-Greek border, while in an interview for Top Channel, former Democratic candidate, journalist Aulon Kalaja, reveals that he too has been punished to not trespass in Greece again. Kalaja recalls that his planned summer 2019 vacation with his family in Greece was ruined after, without being aware of the decision, he was notified at the border that he was declared an undesirable person, without being given any reason for the decision.

"They banned me and declared me non grata for the rest of my life. They banned me and gave me a sheet categorizing me as an H persona non grata. Without explaining the reasons to me, but I believe it has to do with two moments, the protests I organized against the sea agreement and a documentary about the murders of Albanians in Greece. It is unfair because my activity is never extremist," said Aulon Kalaja.

Aulon's efforts to obtain the detention file have been futile, he says. He has been faced with a lack of information and the withdrawal of lawyers to pursue the legal case in the Greek state, in order to have the opportunity to further seek his innocence in Strasbourg.

Transparency about the processes of blocking the entry of Albanians is already being demanded by parliamentarians, but we are still waiting to see if we will have an official response from Greek institutions.
