OpenAI now has a new CEO , which is Emmett Shear , who co-founded the streaming service Twitch , has been named the new CEO of OpenAI .

“Today I received a call inviting me to consider a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: to be the interim CEO of @OpenAI. After consulting with my family and reflecting on it for just a few hours, I agreed," Shear wrote in X.

Meanwhile, Sam Altman to join Microsoft, lead big AI project, CEO Satya Nadella reveals
Shear also denied that Altman, who has since been hired by Microsoft, was fired over security concerns.

"Before taking the job, I checked the reasoning behind the change. The board *didn't* remove Sam for any specific safety disagreement, their reasoning was completely different from his. I'm not crazy enough to take this job without the board's support for commercializing our awesome designs," Shear wrote.

OpenAI started the generative AI craze a year ago by releasing ChatGPT. Chatbot became one of the fastest growing software applications in the world.

Emmett Shear will replace Mira Murat, who became interim CEO on Friday following Altman's ouster. Murat's departure comes hours after she invited Altman to meet OpenAI executives at the company's San Francisco headquarters on Sunday.

Former president Greg Brockman who left OpenAI after being removed from the board also reportedly joined Altman at headquarters on Sunday to discuss a possible return to the company.

The latest move is expected to worsen the situation after reports suggested that some employees are planning to join a new AI venture that Altman is planning to create.

Later on Monday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Altman and Brockman will join his firm to lead a new AI research team. Microsoft is OpenAI's biggest backer with a 49 percent stake in the company.
