Defense Minister Niko Peleshi has confirmed that Albania will buy Javelin anti-tank missiles, of the same model that Ukraine is using to defend itself from Russia. This was confirmed by the Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi, speaking to the media from Pogradec.

Peleshi stressed that the message is about the modernization of the army and that there is no risk of violating national security.

"It is in the framework of the modernization of the Armed Forces, the increase of our capacities, the fulfillment of the objectives that Albania has in relation to NATO. The Javelin anti-tank missile system is being manufactured by the American company, the world's largest military industry Lockheed Martin and we have placed our order there as part of our journey to strengthen the Armed Forces, modernize, increase security and territorial defense of our country . It is not that there is a concrete threat not to create panic, we are a NATO country, we have resolved the issue of national security, we are protected, because we are protected by Article 5 of the NATO treaty, according to which the NATO space "It is inviolable, but we will of course continue to follow the pace of NATO to strengthen as part of a defensive alliance," said Peleshi.

Although Albania is failing to obtain approval for the start of EU membership talks, Peleshi once again stressed that he supports the open door policy: “We are a small ally in NATO, but we are always and will always be in in line with our strategic partners, the US who are also the line guides we support in relation to NATO developments. "One of NATO policies that we support is the 'open door' policy, so Sweden and Finland are two independent sovereign states with high political or legal standards, but also military standards," Peleshi said.

Peleshi also expressed support for the NATO membership of Sweden and Finland, noting that these countries already have high standards.
