Two Albanians escaped from prison in Kassavetia, Greece, on Thursday evening.
The two prisoners, both 41 years old, have been sentenced to 20 years in prison for serious crimes including murder, robbery and arson.
However, since 2019 they have been staying in an unfenced area of the prison, due to good behavior.
Their room was only checked a few times a day by staff. The escapees were given five days off in 2024.
They took advantage of their return from their last leave a few days ago to plan and execute their escape.
Their escape was discovered at 9:00 PM on Thursday and the Greek police immediately mobilized to capture them as the two fugitives are considered dangerous due to serious criminal precedents, while investigations continue to find the Albanians.
