The scandals involving the agriculture and food safety sectors in our country are endless.
After consuming mandarins with high pesticide content all winter, we are now served chicken fillet with salmonella on the table.
The European Food Safety System (RASFF) reported during November and December 2024 that shipments of mandarins from Albania were returned by EU countries due to high levels of the pesticides Chlorpyrifos and Phosmet. These substances are known for their negative effects on human health, including damage to the nervous system and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Without forgetting this scandal yet, here comes the next one. A few days ago, it was announced that 27 tons of chicken fillets contaminated with salmonella had entered the port of Durres, which constitutes another serious threat to public health.
A portion was blocked and several more tons were dumped on the market.
Both of these cases have a common denominator, that of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Anila Denaj.
Also, both of these cases show unacceptable negligence and a lack of rigorous controls by the responsible institutions that are directly subordinate to Minister Denaj.
Our authorities, in both cases, reacted late for the final analyses, and worst of all, allowed the product to be consumed.
The most normal thing in any democratic country would be for the minister in question to take responsibility for these failures and resign.
Whereas here, NO.
Here, not only do they not resign, but they run again to be in the Assembly again, and who knows, maybe even become ministers again.
But can an individual who has so flagrantly failed in his duty to guarantee the food security of citizens honestly and effectively represent their interests in Parliament?
The lack of preventive measures and transparency in dealing with these scandals has damaged public trust in the institutions that Minister Denaj leads.
So, a reminder... If you want products with salmonella and foods with pesticides, vote for Anila Denaj of the Socialist Party.
