The Food and Veterinary Agency in Kosovo has said it is monitoring the situation after the European Food Safety System raised the alarm over shipments of tangerines coming from Albania.

The AUV has increased control measures for shipments of mandarins and samples will be taken for testing to determine if there are pesticides present above the permitted levels in the mandarins.

Loads of tangerines have been stopped at border checkpoints pending the results of laboratory tests.

" The AUV has since last night raised the level of control measures for shipments of mandarin products. All contingents or shipments of these products, in addition to detailed inspection control, are sampled from each for laboratory testing in order to test/determine the level of pesticide residues, including (the type of suspected parameter for testing (MRL) in Chlorpyrifos and phosmet) ," the AUV's announcement states.

The FVA added that although Kosovo is not included in the European System notifications, it has nevertheless taken measures to remove doubts.

" While Kosovo is not included in the RASFF notifications, we are taking this measure with the aim of eliminating the suspicions raised... So far, there has been no suspicious element regarding these products ," the agency further said.
