Prime Minister Edi Rama was this afternoon at the 65th anniversary ceremony of the University of Tirana, where he gave a long speech, about 14 minutes.

He started his speech by saying that he does not like to deal with people who believe that the world is flat, or with theories of this type, and that he has left these to the president of the Basque Country, Erion Veliaj.

However, he added that something very strange was that the University of Tirana is the oldest university in Albania and celebrates its 65th anniversary, while a few days ago he was at the 75th anniversary ceremony of the University of Medicine, which according to him is the most strange than the "flat world".

"Good evening everyone, they left me for the end, as I speak briefly. I stand out for very short speeches. I feel the pain of those who are standing, since this long night began. I will do my best to avoid the written word to say a few things, without going into Erion's world about the flat world or the chips in the vaccine. For better or worse, we are not alone in this, America carries the banner of people who believe in nonsense, while the number of people in the world today who believe in conspiracy theories has increased, since the increased access to the world of information, but this is a topic that neither the government nor the university can solve, the municipality can solve it, I am convinced. We are very confident that with the vote we will give to Erion, we will have fewer people who believe that the world is flat.

First of all congratulations on this anniversary! In fact, we live in a strange world because this is the first University of Tirana and Albania and it celebrates its 65th anniversary, a few days ago I was at the 70th anniversary of the University of Medicine. The medical university is not the only one celebrating the 70th anniversary, although it seems to me that it was born after the year 90. There are other universities that have sent me invitations for the 70th anniversary. This university is the first and at the same time the youngest, this is more complicated than the flat world. Being the youngest, he also has the most legendary staff, Professor Ismet, who is over 100 years old," said Rama.

Meanwhile, starting from next year, the government will start the project to differentiate the salaries of lecturers. This was announced by Prime Minister Edi Rama during today's ceremony.

Among other things, Rama stated that with this process, the aim is to financially evaluate those lecturers who give more to the university. Rama said that both the government and the university itself will contribute to the increase in the salaries of distinguished lecturers.

Rama said that, "the necessary salary increase was made with university funds and with government funds to achieve the objective we had. And meanwhile we are preparing together with this forum that we have created with the rectors to see some conclusions of a report on the current situation and on where we want the University to go in 2030. We want to do this together not as a vision, but as a concrete project, with concrete steps on the calendar. And one of the elements for which we as the government are preparing is to differentiate salaries. To differentiate the salaries in the meaning, to differentiate the contributions from the government side, from the budget side, to appreciate the quality more. To give more opportunities to those who give more. And to end the uniformity in financial support for the evaluation of the teaching staff. This is very important according to us and we are working on this, and I believe that from next year we will give a concrete example of how this will be done. Which means that we will again have a contribution from our side to increase the salaries of lecturers".

Rama added that, "this increase will not be uniform and meanwhile we will allow space for the University of Tirana in the first place, but also for others, the University of Medicine for example, in this case it is a model, to use more from their fund in case they want to increase teachers' salaries more".
