New details are revealed about the dynamics of the event and how the Gjirokastra Police investigation team tracked down the perpetrator of the murder of Italian Edoardo Sarchi. Kamber Sulçaj was driving his car towards the cabin he owned, not far from the scene of the incident.
On the way, he was replaced by a car in which Gazmend Braçi was driving with some of his friends. An argument broke out between them because of the high beams that Braçi was wearing, while Sulçaj accused him of blinding him, hurling insults and curses at them, a verbal argument that continued for several minutes.
Gazmend Braçi then drove to his house on Salari, but the suspected perpetrator followed him. At one point, Braçi's car broke down and he called his father, Eqerem Braçi, and asked him to go pick him up after the car had broken down.
Eqerem Braçi left with 2 cars, together with the Italian Sarchi. As soon as they arrived there, shots were fired in the direction of the cars, a moment when a bullet hit the Italian. For several minutes, Kamber Sulçaj did not let them move, as he continued to shoot in their direction. After leaving, he hid the car in a deep area under a tree.
According to sources, 2 witnesses who had happened to be passing by on a motorcycle and heard the altercation, which later ended with gunfire, provided key testimony that made it possible to identify and seek the perpetrator.
Witnesses said they could not see the men because of the darkness, but they heard the argument and then the gunshots. They told police the type of vehicle the suspect was driving, a white sedan, and the license plates, which were later matched to footage from surveillance cameras.
From the preliminary examination, the forensic medicine revealed that the Italian Sarchi was shot with a bullet in the upper thigh. The bullet was penetrating, from the back and came out in front. Initially, the people who accompanied him gave him first aid by binding his leg, but because the wound was large, Sarchi lost a lot of blood, which also caused his death. The same sources explain that according to the examination, the author used a firearm to commit the crime - a rifle with a night sight, the kind used for hunting pigs. Despite the checks, the author could not be found, but residents, or people who knew him, describe him as a person who had an addiction to alcohol, and when he was drunk he showed serious signs of aggression. Even at the time of the crime, it is suspected that he was drunk.
Initially, the people who were taken to the police station were suspected as perpetrators by investigators, but the testimonies of the witnesses who saw the fight matched their testimonies. However, the forensic report also excluded them from being suspects, due to the weapon that Sarchi was shot with. The murder weapon was not found, but other important items were found at the place where the police found the car. Among them, a pair of binoculars that are suspected to be the murder weapon, which Kamber Sulçaj took with him. Also, another important piece of evidence for the investigation is a license document for a rifle with a night vision scope, in his name, which matches the murder weapon.
