The 23-year-old who caused the tragic accident yesterday evening on the Saranda-Delvinë road was returning to his home in the village of Fushëbardhë in Gjirokastra, where he was originally from and where his family lives.
He had been in Saranda since the afternoon and at around 8:00 PM was returning home, in the village of Fushëbardhë, when he committed a traffic violation and fatally hit two sisters Elvisa and Rozina Dhimaku, injuring their friend Antonela Zhupa.
After testing by the police, he was found to be intoxicated, with an alcohol level of 1.52 mg/l in the first measurement and 1.42 mg/l in the second. Under these conditions, the Saranda Police officers immediately put him in handcuffs, and he is expected to face several serious charges in court.
So, the 23-year-old had consumed a large amount of alcohol in Saranda and was on his way home.
The Audi SUV, which appeared to be a Q5 model, which he was driving at breakneck speed, made a wrong overtaking move in an area with continuous lines and came in front of the vehicle driven by Elvisa Dhimaku.
The head-on collision was fatal and the "Lancia" in which the three girls were travelling was completely destroyed in the front. The Audi was also overturned on the side of the road, but the driver, Kevi Norra, escaped without injury.
Elvisa and Rozina Dhimaku and their friend Antonela had left the village of Kopaçëz in Delvinës for the hospital in Saranda, where their 10-year-old brother was. The Dhimaku family's youngest son had been diagnosed with leukemia and had returned to Saranda from abroad.
Meanwhile, Kevi Norra was traveling in the opposite direction to them, from Saranda towards Delvina and then Gjirokastra, where his family lived.
The sisters and their friend were going to spend the night next to him, in the hospital bed, but unfortunately their path to their brother was cut short, just like the two lives that were in the prime of life.
The Dhimaku family has opened the doors of the morgue, amidst immense pain over the departure of Elvisa and Rozina and the strength to stay close to their 10-year-old son, who was unable to meet his two sisters for the last time, who were the light of his eyes./newsbomb.al
