A day after the Special Court remanded him in "prison arrest" security measure, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj arrived at the detention facility in Durrës on Thursday morning.

According to the regulations, Veliaj is still in the observation phase and has not yet been transferred to a regular room.

According to the institution's internal rules, he was initially placed alone, as part of the standard procedure for assessing his condition.

During this period, he was not allowed to meet with anyone except his lawyer, and this only with special permission from the prosecution.

The observation, which lasts 48 hours, serves to determine the further conditions of his stay within the institution.

This is an ongoing development, and it is expected that, after the end of the observation period, a decision will be made on the further regime of his stay in Durrës prison.
