Witnesses praise Mayor Shkreli in SPAK: We complained to this gentleman and he

The Special Court heard nine witnesses called by SPAK in the trial of the mayor of Vau i Dejës, Kristian Shkreli. The mayor is being tried for "electoral corruption", following suspicions that, ahead of the May 2025 primary elections, he overhauled the electricity infrastructure of the village of Stajkë, in exchange for votes for Tom Doshi's Social Democratic Party.

As SPAK was about to prove the accusation against them, it was confronted by witnesses who thanked the defendant for the investment made. "Thank you from him, for bringing us the lights. We have nothing to say about him. For us, he is honored, respected. Thanks to him, we also have the road," said witness Alfred Martini.

"We complained to this gentleman and he solved our problem. Kristian brought us electricity and gave us a driveway," said another witness, Colonel Koleci. One after another, the witnesses spoke of a meeting with the mayor in April 2025, where they had asked him for an investment in energy.

They admitted that Shkreli had asked them to attend a PSD electoral rally, but categorically denied that they were directed to vote for any particular political force. The witnesses maintained the same position even when confronted by prosecutor Dritan Prençi with wiretaps of their phones.

In a communication between witness Martini and Kristian Shkreli, the local official said "you have the lights on" and then "only for Tom", while receiving the response "don't turn it off" from the interlocutor. The prosecutor also made objections to the testimonies with the statements given in SPAK. In one of them, one of the witnesses claimed that Shkreli had told him "let's set fire to Tom Doshi".
