Dr. Adrian Hoti's shocking testimony: Cobalt in Oncology, like Chernobyl.
Doctor Adrian Hoti

Doctor Adrian Hoti, the person who objected to what was happening with the cobalt at the Oncology Department, an issue that was revealed by the megascandal file at the Oncology Department a few days ago, in an interview with the journalist Osman Stafa, stated that the cobalt was kept in rooms without no prerequisites.

He has shown that he followed all the administrative steps to document the case and to influence the necessary measures to be taken to ensure the life and health of doctors and patients, something like this did not happen.

This forced the doctor to resign.

" Personally, I have not denounced! I objected as far as I could from my position, to the creation of a radiotherapy cabinet in an ordinary hospital room.

Working for 20 years in radiotherapy, you learn a lot about the work, the level of protection, the regulations. Unfortunately, we are the last country in Europe that uses cobalt therapy.

In Albania there was a practical school for this part. I had heard the bosses before saying how the procedure was.

In September 2021, my routine was to go to the sector. There was talk of a shipment of cobalt that had arrived. A program was broadcast that radiotherapy is being put into operation. I learned that cobalt was kept off protocol. It is not the best tool to treat these diseases. There are other alternatives.

I didn't believe it when I was told the cobalt was kept in an ordinary room. There were no conditions.

When cobalt is used, there are several principles in radiotherapy and radiology. The main principles for cobalt are that it should be kept only as much as is needed. If I do not use the subject for 3 months, I must definitely remove it from the cabinet. There is no justification for waiting even if you have the conditions.

By nature it is not storable, it is like an hourglass that discharges for 5 years. It is no longer usable.

I started trying to convince them that what was being done was wrong, that everything would go to waste because when the tests were done those who monitor us would say stop.

While the matter was delayed I made my efforts. I met the head of service, who is representative of everything in oncology, from the administrative side.

He listened to me, he did not obey. Then I thought of making it official, I sent an email to the Oncology administrator who is responsible for what each room does.

The rights of the employees were being violated because they were not informed about the working conditions, where there is radiation or where it is not.

This made me more suspicious of what was going on because I was not a stranger.

I took the e-mail to Silva, who did not see it for two weeks. Because of this silence, I turned to the director of QSUT at the time, who delegated it to someone else within the day.

No mistakes could be made because we are dealing with serious events, with situations like Chernobyl.

It has a radiation that we don't measure at the moment. The person who deals with this issue said it is below normal allowed, so there is radiation. You don't see it and the devices we have don't measure it, but even the invisible for a long time, because the personnel work there for years, does not guarantee protection.

Those who wear bulletproof vests have some protection but are not absolutely protected.

The capsule is not designed to end the cycle there, the bunker is needed. They have to be buried tens of meters underground because their activity is ineffective.

The 2021 Cobalt has been damaged and is no longer operational. I hope that radiation oncology did not happen," he said.
