The Albanian woman who was arrested after leaving her 4-month-old baby in the car for 40 minutes, has been sentenced to 6 months in prison and 3 months probation for neglect.

The 22-year-old woman appeared before the court and acknowledged the measure of arrest, while she said that she had left the child in the car because she was asleep and that she did not plan to be late.

She said that the delay had happened because there had been a long line in the store where she had entered to buy something.

"I took it with me because I had nowhere to leave it. I left it because I was breastfeeding the whole way. The child was tired. When we got there he fell asleep. I went to get some things and will be back soon. There were a lot of people at the checkout, that's why I was late," she said.

The incident happened at noon yesterday, east of Thessaloniki, while the baby was left alone in the vehicle for at least 40 minutes.

" She was in the child seat, the car was closed and the window was half open. The baby woke up and was crying ," said an eyewitness, who also informed the police.
