15 trucks with 240 tons of Serbian corn with aflatoxin are blocked

Corn with aflatoxin, which endangers animal and human health, is not produced by Albanian farms, but by Serbian farmers.

The AKU at the Hani i Hoti border crossing has blocked 15 trucks with corn, where the total weight of corn suspected of containing aflatoxin reaches 420 tons.

Food Inspectors are implementing the order of Minister Andis Salla, who has requested the analysis of every load of corn. Meanwhile, sources for Top Channel learn that the trucks for analysis have not only been sent to ISUV, but also to accredited laboratories in Belgium and Italy, as the results of the analyses in these countries come out many times faster than those of our laboratory.

Aflatoxin is considered one of the most dangerous toxins for human health. If animals consume corn with aflatoxin, then this mold also penetrates into the milk, and unfortunately it is not destroyed in any processing process. WHO considers aflatoxin to be one of the most dangerous toxins for human health because it can cause carcinogenic diseases.

Mycotoxins in livestock feed are created when corn is not kept in good storage conditions, where as a rule, farmers must store all feed in dry places.

Animal feed coming from Serbia to Albania is contaminated with the carcinogenic toxin, aflatoxin. This was shown by the first results of the analysis that came out on November 7th, when the AKU blocked the first shipment of 25 tons of Serbian corn with aflatoxin.

The entire quantity of corn of 420 tons is destined for livestock farms in our country. Our farmer is forced to supply his stable with imported corn, since in our country corn fields are disappearing, this is because the grain farmer is the worst subsidized in the region, as a result his colleague from Serbia has lower production costs, and a much higher profit margin.

This wrong economic policy has forced our farmers to raise their cows, sheep, and poultry with dangerous food from Serbia.
