The Prisons Directorate has responded to the Special Court regarding the request of former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, to read the investigative files for the sterilization file, through a computer not connected to the internet.

In response, the Prison Directorate says it does not have the necessary infrastructure to implement it.

In a room in the Special Court covered with files, former Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj is brought every day from Durrës detention center to study SPAK's investigative materials against him.

But this method, according to the former minister, is not a real access to familiarize oneself with the acts, valid for the judicial process initiated against him for the "Sterilization" file.

According to him, the Institutions for the Execution of Criminal Decisions do not allow detainees to use computers without internet, even though the law and regulations in force do not expressly prohibit such a thing, according to him.

Beqaj has previously called on the National Chamber of Advocates and justice institutions to react, emphasizing that without access to the files, the defense risks remaining only formal.

Among other things, Beqaj has stated that criminal trials are being conducted on thousands of pages of electronic material that SPAK delivers to lawyers, but that the defendants themselves in detention are unable to read, while they are not even allowed a laptop.
