Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted after the statement of the European Democrats (PDE/EDP), who demanded explanations for the closure or restriction of around 200 Instagram profiles linked to activists and protesters in Albania.
The European Democrats demanded answers from the Albanian government, stressing that freedom of expression and political dissent are fundamental democratic rights.
In his response, Rama categorically denied any government involvement in the deactivation of the accounts.
"Let me be absolutely clear: we have absolutely no connection to any social media accounts that have been deactivated or restricted, nor do we have the technical capability to carry out an operation of this type," the prime minister writes.
Rama has described the accusations as "shameful propaganda" and criticized those who, according to him, are trying to link the government to the closure of social media profiles.
He has also raised suspicions that the same sources that, according to him, previously instigated the so-called "Flamingo Revolution" may be behind this situation, arguing that the aim may be to revive a protest that has already lost strength.
In his reaction, Rama also addresses the European Democrats, accusing them of making a political judgment without evidence.
"Shame on this whole group of losers who spread such nonsense," Rama concludes.
Prime Minister Edi Rama's reaction:
How can these agitators call themselves democrats while publishing such a shameful visual insinuation?
I have lived with the blame and shaming games from my opponents for as long as I have been in politics. But when this low form of propaganda comes from people who pose as European democrats, it is truly regrettable.
What if this whole farce comes from the same malicious sources that fueled the so-called “Flamingo Revolution,” many of which also fueled the chaos in Ceuta? Why? Simple: to breathe new life into a “revolution” that has already deflated. Doesn’t that make sense? Of course it does. But, apparently, not for these democrats in name only.
Therefore, let me be clear: we have nothing to do with deactivating or restricting any social media accounts, nor do we possess the technical capacity to carry out an operation of this type.
Shame on this whole bunch of losers who spread such nonsense.
How can these agitators call themselves democrats while publishing such a shameless visual insinuation?
