A large-scale operation by the cybercrime department of the State Police, in collaboration with prosecutors' offices in several districts of the country, has recently targeted internet service providers that sell pirated television subscriptions.

As part of this operation, criminal proceedings have been initiated against several persons and entities, while the operation will continue with a crackdown on operators and other individuals who pirate television packages.

During the action, ISP internet operators in Tirana, Vlora, Shkodër, Saranda, Lezha and other cities were prosecuted. Television piracy is a phenomenon that is directly harming consumers who pay for a service they do not receive.

Even earlier, the Cybercrime Directorate in cooperation with the prosecution have cracked down on this phenomenon that turns entertainment into fraud. Although they seem like a perfect solution, hundreds of channels, endless movies, live sports, as they are offered at a ridiculous price, behind this tempting offer, there is a dangerous fraud that is affecting thousands of Albanian consumers.

Pirated IPTV decoders, sold illegally by individuals, phantom entities but also by internet service operators, are spreading massively through social networks and the informal market. Without a license. Without control. Without responsibility. All of these entities operate in violation of the law and their signal is often interrupted, thus interrupting the service provided to consumers who are defenseless in the face of this fraud, as they have no contract to guarantee reimbursement.

Experts warn that many of these decoders sold by these operators who practice television piracy contain insecure applications, which can steal personal data, open unauthorized access to the home network, and pose a legal risk, as these services operate by pirating television content.

Every user, even without knowing it, becomes part of an illegal activity with consequences that can go beyond the screen. Therefore, the experts' appeal to consumers not to buy IPTV decoders from dubious sources, but to choose only licensed platforms, with guaranteed service, transparency and security because in the end, what starts as a "savings" can end as fraud, risk and loss.
