A tragic accident has been recorded in Italy, resulting in the death of a 62-year-old Albanian woman. The victim has been identified as Merita Qemali. She was involved in an accident on Tuesday at midnight on Highway 14.
The woman was travelling in a Ford station wagon, heading to Chiaravalle, along with her 49-year-old partner, his 10-year-old son and her 47-year-old sister. The four passengers were returning from an Easter holiday in Sicily.
Their car collided with a truck in the Montedomini tunnel, between Ancona Sud and Ancona Nord, just before the exit for Castelferretti and Chiaravalle. They were just a short distance from home when the accident occurred under the Montedomini tunnel.
The truck, driven by a Romanian woman, was traveling at low speed due to a flat tire. The impact was extremely strong, completely destroying the front of the Ford.
Two passengers were trapped in the car and were extricated by firefighters. The 49-year-old driver underwent surgery for Torrette and remains in critical condition; his sister-in-law underwent surgery, also in critical condition.
The child is in stable condition and out of danger. It remains unclear whether the truck had its lights on and whether it could have stopped safely before the tunnel.
